Criminal defence lawyer in Madrid

A criminal case is largely decided before trial. The suspect's statement, whether or not precautionary measures are contested, and the steps taken during the investigation all shape the room for manoeuvre that remains once the matter reaches the courtroom.

The firm takes on technical direction from the very first step and through every stage: assistance to the detainee, the investigation, the trial and any appeals. The case is directed and argued personally by the principal lawyer, with no delegation to trainees or junior associates, backed by years of active criminal litigation before courts and tribunals throughout Spain.

In the end, what a well-run criminal defence protects is very concrete: your freedom, your assets and, in cases that become public, your personal and professional reputation.

Frequently asked questions

Should I make a statement if I am summoned as a suspect?

This is a decision that can only be made once the content of the case file is known. A suspect has the right to remain silent and not to incriminate themselves, and exercising that right does not harm their position. What does harm it is making a statement without having reviewed the proceedings first. That is why the confidential meeting with the lawyer before any statement is not a formality: it is the moment at which the procedural position is set.

Is a duty (legal-aid) lawyer good enough?

The duty lawyer scheme guarantees immediate legal assistance and serves an essential function. The difference with privately instructed defence is not one of competence, but of continuity and time: the duty lawyer attends a specific step, while privately instructed counsel studies the entire case file and sustains a single strategy throughout the proceedings. Legal representation can be changed at any time.

How long can criminal proceedings last?

It depends on the complexity of the investigation and the court handling it; economic crime cases with substantial documentation tend to run considerably longer than straightforward matters. Any specific timeframe offered without knowledge of the case file is an estimate with no real basis. What can be anticipated at a first consultation are the stages still to come and what is decided at each of them.

Can I bring a private prosecution if I am the victim?

Yes. An injured party may join the proceedings as a private prosecutor, which allows them to request investigative steps, take part in the investigation and put forward their own case theory, rather than relying solely on the Public Prosecutor's approach. This is particularly relevant when compensation for the harm suffered is part of the objective.
